3 STEPS TO SUCCESS
STEP 1 – EMPLOYABILITY QUALIFICATION
Gain an accredited qualification to add to your CV. Learners complete the Open Awards qualification in Skills for Further Learning and Employment at Level 1 or Level 2 to give them the skills and knowledge they need to take the next step in their journey – supported by a dedicated tutor in one-to-one and group settings.
STEP 2 – ENGLISH AND MATHS FUNCTIONAL SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS
Improve your English and Maths skills. Learners get tutor-led support to develop their English and Maths skills and achieve their next level qualification.
STEP 3 – EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Based on gaining key employability skills and experience in a variety of different settings, our work experience programme is in 3 stages: on site, community volunteering and in a business setting. Learners can complete placements to suit their own development and confidence.
SUPPORT IS THE KEY TO OUR SUCCESS
We offer support at every step of the programme, including; dedicated tutors and mentors, free healthy breakfast provision, small group sizes, support for travel to placements, business links for interview practice and advice and support. Plus our ‘recommend a friend’ scheme that pays £20 for every friend you refer.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A PLACE ON THE PROGRAMME?
Applying for a place on the Advantage Programme is easy. Just attend one of our Open Days, ask about us at your school, leave your details on our website or contact one of our Programme Managers (all details on the back of this brochure). They will answer any questions you might have, arrange an interview and work with you to complete enrolment on to the programme and to apply for a bursary if you are eligible.
WHAT PROGRAMMES DOES ADVANTAGE OFFER?
We offer both Study Programmes and Traineeships. These run alongside each other with a similar timetable but with different core aims. For example, the traineeship programme is designed for young people who are within 6 months of securing an apprenticeship or employment and has a core aim of 100 hours work experience.
HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAMME AND WHEN CAN I APPLY?
The programme is up to 22 weeks long and you can apply as soon as you are 16 and have left school. Unlike many colleges, we have an intake every month so you can join us at any time of the year from September to March.
After finishing high school with 10 GCSE’s, Connor headed to a local college to do his A-levels but struggled to adapt to higher education. He dropped out a few months later and was unsure what his next career steps could be.
Connor joined the Advantage Programme, which helped with everything from CV writing to life skills training and interview techniques, providing him with a much-needed confidence boost and helping him to get his life on track. Connor has since started an apprenticeship with Sale Sharks sponsor Bollington Insurance.
Connor had this to say about his experience in the Advantage Programme: “Advantage has been life-changing for me. I’m now in a job that I really enjoy and feel happy that I’m moving forward in my career.
WHAT IS THE PROGRAMME TIMETABLE?
The programme is delivered Monday to Friday with work placements taking place on days to suit the learner. Free breakfast snacks are offered from 9.30am with sessions lasting from 10am to 3pm.
DO LEARNERS GET A BURSARY?
Learners can apply for a means tested bursary up to £30 each week to help pay for travel and food. You do not have to pay this money back. Learners will complete an application form with their tutors who will be able to tell them if they qualify within 4 weeks of starting the programme.
HOW MANY ARE IN EACH COHORT?
Our cohorts are kept small to support the individual needs of each learner and provide a more relaxed environment. Each cohort is between 8 and 12 learners.
WHO CAN APPLY? Anyone between 16–18 is invited to join their local Advantage Programme. Study Programme – if you are between 16 and 18 and have completed school. Traineeship – if you are between 16 and 18 and are ready for an apprenticeship or employment.
For all of our courses an initial interview and a keen interest in taking your next step are the core requirements.
