ICC exists to ensure well informed, empowered, and vibrant, Irish and Irish Traveller communities. The team are a leading participant in the provision of support, information, and guidance for all their communities.
Peter Hinton has been a Trustee with ICC for over 10 years. He has led a highly skilled and committed Trustee Board through an extraordinary year. His calm and steady approach, reliability, openness to new ideas and continued guidance and support has enabled ICC to meet ongoing challenges i.e. increased demand for services, resource constraints, recruiting staff, office restructure, as well as the additional challenges presented by Covid-19.
During lockdown, ICC were able to:
- Set up remote working quickly and efficiently
- Assessed additional support needs existing Service Users might have in light of lockdown
- Kept a close eye on staff and volunteer health and wellbeing
- Led the way on CARA and innovative North West Irish Community response to lockdown
- Inform and influence policy and decision makers locally, regionally and nationally about the particular and additional experiences and anxieties of our communities at this time
ICC interventions have brough positive and measurable change to the lives of over 1000 people in the last 12 months. They have ensured that people experiencing multiple disadvantages (homelessness, rough sleeping, offending, newly arrived migrants, substance dependency, depression/anxiety, enduring mental health conditions, social & cultural isolation) have stayed safe, well and connected throughout lockdown and beyond.
In their annual Trustee Report, Peter says:
“ICC has certainly risen to the challenge that the pandemic has posed. We must now ensure that we continue to adapt and develop, securing funding in the tougher time ahead to continue to support our community.”
