The race is on to recruit would-be energy savers from across Wirral as part of a bid to win a national energy saving competition.
Community Action Wirral is urging people to join Wirral’s energy saving team via the Big Energy Race website www.bigenergyrace.org
The Big Energy Race is a national competition designed to help community groups and individuals take control of their energy bills. Teams from across Britain are battling it out to recruit members willing to take on some energy saving challenges.
These challenges range from tracking meter readings to turning down boiler thermostats. The more members each community group recruits and the more challenges that are undertaken the more points the whole team earns. At the end of the competition one team will be crowned champions and will win a cash prize towards a community energy project.
This is a great opportunity to help pick up some practical energy saving tips; it’s free to take part and anyone with access to the internet can get involved.
Wirral Council is also backing the local energy saving team.
“We applaud Community Action Wirral’s initiative in registering a team and hope as many people as possible will get behind it.” said Cllr Bernie Mooney, Cabinet member for Environment and Sustainability.
“We know many people and organisations struggle with their energy bills. Taking part in the Big Energy Race is a chance to both save energy and save money.
Local people can get energy saving advice by calling Energy Projects Plus’ Save Energy Advice Line on 0800 043 0151. There is also an opportunity to save on your energy bills by registering interest in the local Collective Energy Switch.
