Magenta Living and Wirral ARK’s mascot ‘MARK’ accompanied a team of cyclists on the challenge of a lifetime recently, cycling from one side of the coast (Whitehaven) to the other (Tynemouth) in three days.
Starting on 25th May, the cycling team battled steep hills in wintry conditions, faced a few minor injuries and suffered just one puncture. Then, after covering a tremendous 140 miles, the team reached the finish line in Tynemouth, just two days later!
By bringing together staff from both charitable organisations, clients suffering with a range of personal issues and/or homelessness benefited from breathtaking scenery while embracing team work.
The team spirit and encouragement throughout was exceptional. By buddying up, cyclists Charlie Eldredd, Rick Powell, Ray Hellon, Barry Miller, Paul Anson, Owen Knox, Terry Stone, Stephen Knowles, and Paul Whelan were never left alone or struggling and can justly be proud of what they achieved.
Ray Hellon, keen cyclist and Key Worker at Wirral ARK says: “It was a fantastic experience and great to be away with such a lovely crowd of people. Magenta Living supplied the kit and bikes, so we all looked the part! I failed to realise how tough it was going to be, but felt really encouraged by everyone’s attitude towards the challenge.”
Paul Anson, from Magenta Living says: “This was a great experience all round, and is undoubtedly just the start of our partnership. We are already looking into ways of funding more equipment to give more underprivileged Wirral ARK clients the chance to join in any future cycling adventures.”
