Home-Start Wirral is celebrating 15 years of supporting Wirral families.
Since January 2000 it has grown and diversified to provide breastfeeding support, new family support, school readiness projects, plus a whole range of different groups at their Hub – alongside their core home visiting family support.
From small beginnings, Home-Start Wirral has grown into the largest Home-Start family support organisation in the UK – 1,253 volunteers have supported an amazing 8,171 families and 10,185 children over the last 15 years!
The difference they have made to Wirral families is backed up with feedback from those they have supported:
”My volunteer is the only constant thing in my life, at the end of a visit it’s like we’ve had a spa day as I feel so relaxed”, said one of those supported.
Another added, “For us, L was a God send and I truly mean that. It really helped me as a father and, more importantly, it really helped my daughter through a hard time in her life. Our volunteer has a wonderful relationship with my daughter and has helped fill a gap, as her mum lives abroad. We have had some tough times and are coming through the other side and a lot of that is down to Home-Start’s support.”
A health visitor who referred a family to Home-Start has also lent their support, stating, “The family I referred to Home-Start were very complex and the volunteer who was matched to the family went that extra mile to support them through many ongoing issues. It really is an invaluable support service for families.”
