Council Show New Litter Clampdown Has Teeth!

0

More people received on-the-spot fines for dropping litter in Wirral within the first two days of a new clampdown as were fined in the previous five years!

On the first day of the new get-tough approach, 78 fixed penalty notices were issued to people observed dropping litter by enforcement officers. Then a further 61 people were issued with notices the next day – bringing the total to 139 over just two days!

This stands in stark contrast to the 90 penalty notices handed out since 2010 before the introduction of the new clampdown.

The new patrols started on Wednesday 1st July, targeting anti-social people who don’t dispose of their litter in a responsible way. Anyone observed dropping and leaving litter will now receive an immediate, on-the-spot, penalty of £80.

The Council will invest the proceeds from the fixed penalties into environmental activities in the borough, such as tackling litter, graffiti and fly-posting.
