Wirral Archives – sales day & First World War family history day

Dear Friends of Wirral Archives,

On Friday 9 September Wirral Archives will be holding a sales day – all of the duplicate original documents that we have for sale will be on display in the Search Room for you to purchase.

These documents are the remains of large print runs of national or local government publications. They include:

  • official handbooks of Birkenhead and of Wallasey
  • acts of Parliament, bills and bye-laws relating to Birkenhead
  • invitation cards from the Mayor of Birkenhead
  • booklet on the King Edward I Window in Birkenhead Town Hall
  • annual reports of the Medical Officer of Health for Wallasey
  • programmes of the Floral Pavilion
  • brochure of the opening of Birkenhead Power Station
  • British railways magazine
  • history of Wirral Local Education Authority, by David Griffith

Wirral Archives will be hosting a special First World War family history day on Monday 7th November, in the Lower Ground Floor Conference Room adjacent to Wirral Archives.

Peter Threlfall, Chairman of the Merseyside Branch of the Western Front Association, will give a presentation and then be available to discuss your First World War family history research:

  • 10 a.m. – Presentation on the Hamilton Square War Memorial, in particular on researching the names commemorated on the Cenotaph
  • afternoon – First World War family history help desk – come in and discuss your research

You may also be interested to know that from 28th October to 6th November the Merseyside Branch of the Western Front Association will be running their fifth Great War exhibition at the Birkenhead Park Visitors Centre.
