The Surviving Winter Appeal is a UK wide coordinated campaign to encourage those who can afford it, to donate their Winter Fuel payment to support older and vulnerable people affected by fuel poverty this winter. Applications for the donated Winter Fuel payments are welcome from voluntary and community groups in Merseyside (including Halton) who are supporting vulnerable older people and also people suffering severe economic disadvantage and poverty. Postcode Community Trust was established in 2014 to provide financial support to charities and community groups that support environmental protection, community development, engagement in sport, advancement of health, promotion of human rights and prevention of poverty. Our Community Grants Programme exists to support projects of up to one year in length that deliver a positive impact to local communities and is now open for applications. You will have until Friday 30th January to complete your application. Merseyside is only eligible for this round. Applications for £2,000 or under are open to organisations that are not registered charities (although registered charities may apply for this smaller amount if they wish). Applications for over £2,000 are open to registered charities only. If you do not have a registered charity number, you may only apply for up to £2,000 (see above). Listed Places Of Worship Roof Repair Fund is intended to ensure historic places of worship can remain open for commemoration, services and other community functions and events. Grants are available from £10,000 to £100,000 to help meet the costs of urgent repairs to roofs (e.g. coverings, timbers, ceilings and vaults) and rainwater disposal systems (e.g. gutters, valleys, hoppers, downpipes, gullies, drains and soakaways). There is only one opportunity to apply. The closing date for applications is 12pm (noon) Friday 30 January 2015. This is a government-sponsored fund set up to help make the UK’s listed places of worship weathertight, safe and open for use. It is administered by the National Heritage Memorial Fund on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. www.lpowroof.org.uk/
The MSE Charity addresses the UK’s massive problem of financial illiteracy by funding relevant guidance and education for individuals and groups. The MSE Charity provides grants to constituted groups and charities to promote financial literacy through education or other activities. So if you’ve an innovative idea to help lots of people, or you’re an established charity wanting funding for such a project grants may be available as long as it helps educate and inform people about financial literacy, consumer or debt issues. The application form is now online. The next round will be open from the 1st to the 31st January 2015. As the Trust’s resources are modest, the trustees prefer to fund small to medium-sized charities with an annual income of less than £500,000 where small grants can have more impact. Only one application whether successful or not will be considered for each organization within a two year period. 10% of any funding grant will be retained until the monitoring form has been completed and returned at the end of the project. www.msecharity.com/how-to-apply.aspx
Sport England The Protecting Playing Fields funding programme is part of Sport England’s strategy which is focused on helping more people acquire lifelong sporting habits. It will invest in capital projects to either create new natural turf pitches or improve existing ones that need levelling or drainage works. The programme is being delivered via funding rounds with approximately £4 million being awarded to projects in each round. The first six rounds of funding have benefited 399 projects. The Birkenhead Your Wirral Fund is currently open for applications which contribute to the Feeding Birkenhead Campaign. The criteria require this funding to be used for new projects, excluding existing schemes. Priorities include the continuation of free schools meals in the holidays, breakfast and after schools clubs and for these programmes to begin in the 2015 Easter Holiday Period. The deadline for applications is 5.00pm on 25th February. Maximum of £2500 per organisation. The Association for Industrial Archaeology Restoration Grants criteria for awarding the grants are: the grant is for the restoration of historically, technically, architecturally, and/or archaeologically important industrial buildings, structures, machinery, vehicles and vessels within the UK; the application will usually relate to a single, tangible structure or artefact; the heritage asset must be covered by a Conservation Policy and/or Statement; the heritage asset must be sustainably managed, displayed and interpreted for the public, therefore the public must have full access to the asset; the grant must not result in another body reducing its funding; the maximum grant that can be awarded is £20,000; the applicant organisation must be a not-for-profit organisation such as a Trust, charity, CIC etc, grants are not available for private businesses or individuals; the grant is to be used as partnership funding, the applicant being in the process of or having already raised matching funding from their own resources, fund raising, an HLF, PRISM or other grant award; AIA Council members may wish to visit your site to see the asset it is proposed to restore and seek further information in order to reach a decision. Closing date for applications is 31st March in each year. It is anticipated that a decision will be made on all applications by the end of May in each year and all applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application in early June. www.industrial-archaeology.org
