Wirral’s Mayor, Councillor Les Rowlands, raised the flag outside Wallasey Town Hall in support of our armed forces yesterday morning as the country got ready to celebrate Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27th June.
Armed Forces Day is a chance for people to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community. As part of the week, Reserves Day on Wednesday 24th June provides an opportunity for the country to recognise Reserve Forces as well.
Locally, there is a combined Liverpool and Merseyside Armed Forces event taking place at Liverpool’s Albert Dock on Saturday. Regulars and Reserves will be at the free event and there will also be a range of current equipment for visitors to look at, including vehicles, weapons and personal protection kit.
Councillor Les Rowlands said: “Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to raise public awareness of the contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in HM Armed Forces. Across the country people are getting involved and Wirral Council is delighted to be able to show support by raising the flag outside the Town Hall for the week and supporting events locally to mark the occasion.”
