Today is the first day of Stoptober, a Public Health campaign around a mass-smoking quit attempt which started in 2012 and runs every year for 28 days in October.
Smokers are encouraged to sign up to access a range of support tools including daily support emails, the Stoptober app, daily SMS text message support and the Stoptober quit pack.
To better an individual’s chance of quitting for good, smokers are encouraged to sign up with family, friends and colleagues as evidence strongly suggests that support from a smoker’s social circle significantly increases the chance of a quit attempt being successful.
In 2015, Stoptober gets a comedy flavour from Bill Bailey, Rhod Gilbert, Al Murray and Shappi Khorsendi.
Those who join the campaign and stay smoke-free for 28 days are five times more likely to succeed than those who embark on a quit attempt alone.
