Youth Fed is pioneering an exciting new programme, called Match Me A Mentor.
The programme will engage the local community to support young people who are disadvantaged and may be struggling with their education or in a position in which we would worry about the path that they may take in the future.
We are looking for local businesses and members of the community to sign up to the scheme in order that employees would volunteer their time to mentor a young person.
This is a voluntary position and mentors will receive a comprehensive programme of training to support them fully – there is no need for prior experience of working with young people, we just ask that you complete a satisfactory DBS application.
Training includes;
- Safeguarding – putting the relevant procedures in place to ensure the safety of young people and recognising the sign of abuse in young people with whom you are working or come into contact with
- Mentoring induction – What sort of young person will I be matched with? What will I be doing with them?
So many young people we work with don’t have a role model, or a person in their life who believes in them – you’ll be that person.
