Two Wirral men have reached the final of the North West’s ‘I Made A Difference Awards’ organised by Go On.

Peter Dobbins and Ernest Waring are both Magenta Living tenants. The organisation helped the inspirational men submit their entries in the ‘Personal Impact’ section of the awards, which are a celebration of people who have gained digital skills and those who have helped others to get online.
Attending computer training, organised by Lynn Ryder of Magenta Living’s Community Regeneration Team, enabled Peter and Ernest to discover the internet and develop their new found skills. The two men, who are both widowers, also developed a strong friendship formed on a mutual naval past and lots of shared interests.
Jamie Martin, Head of Community Regeneration, says: “Magenta Living’s community capacity training offers free courses to residents which have a wide ranging impact, in this case both promoting digital inclusion and combating social isolation. We are proud to offer opportunities to residents that develop their learning at any stage of their lives, bring communities together and empower citizens.”
Peter and Ernest were two of five individuals shortlisted for the ‘I Made A Difference Awards’, which was held at the Soapworks in Salford Quays on 6th July. Although they were not victorious this time round, both treasure their certificates and are making plans for the next stage of their digital learning journey with Magenta Living.
