Cheshire & Merseyside (C&M) has the opportunity to improve support services for those bereaved by suicide. NHS England has provided transformational funding to support local services, ensuring those impacted by a suspected suicide can access the support they require.
The NHSE suicide bereavement funding is to enable a full 4 -tier model to be in place as follows: The 4- tier Suicide Bereavement Model The Cheshire & Merseyside proposal for a suicide bereavement programme, approved by NHSE, consists of:
1. Information on suicide bereavement support is available through distribution of the ‘Help is at Hand’ leaflet
2. Peer to Peer Support Groups are accessible across all of Cheshire & Merseyside
3. A 1-2-1 suicide bereavement liaison service is available across all of Cheshire & Merseyside
4. Therapy and suicide bereavement counselling is offered
This commission a ‘Consultation on Suicide Bereavement Support’ to inform the future commissioning of these services.
