Are you a phenomenal leader? Are you good with numbers, plans and people? Do you work with clarity, influence, persuasion, a great big heart, determination, an open-mind and oodles of professionalism (…go on, admit it)? Well, if the answer’s a resounding yes, have we got a cracking opportunity for you!

We’re looking for a brand new director of operations to join our fantastic team. This is a brilliant role with a lot of responsibility – and for the right person, a whole lot of reward, too. Here’s Lesley, our chief exec, to talk you through the role a bit:

So, what’s this role all about?

You can find details of what the role entails in the job description and the candidate pack below, but just to give you a little bit more of a flavour…

Location: Eleanor Rathbone House, 24 Derby Road, Liverpool, L5 9PR

Salary: circa £75,000

Really getting behind who we are and being a part of our amazing journey

PSS started back in 1919 by the formidable Eleanor Rathbone and since then, we’ve been a rebel with a cause: we were there at the start of many well-known services and charities, forging new paths to previously uncharted territories – and we’re not slowing down with age. For the last 100 years, we’ve been creating services that help people make the most of their lives – no-matter who they are, no-matter where they’re from and no-matter what life throws at them. We’re looking for someone who can take that spirit – that pioneering, open-minded, hard shelled but heart-led approach – and help us continue its legacy into the next 100 years of our organisation’s journey.

Keeping the people who use our services in the driving seat

Our world revolves around the people who use our services (always has, always will), and you’ll make sure that those people are the ones who shape the support they receive – they’re the true experts by experience.

Keeping the people who use our services safe

You’ll be the chief supremo for safeguarding – keeping this as a top priority.

Making sure our services are having a positive impact

You’ll make sure we deliver the best outcomes for people using our services whilst also making sure we give good value for money.

Being a cracking leader

Ultimately you’ll take accountability for the actions and decisions made not only by you but by team members across PSS operations., so we need you to be a strong and effective leader. We’ll need you to be kind, firm and fair: high challenge, high praise.

Planning for the future

You’ll write the next chapter with our operations team; writing the plan and delivering on it.  Working alongside the other members of our leadership team (which is made up of another three people), you’ll help to build and share a clear vision for PSS in the future (we call this the Big Plan). It’ll then be your job to champion this vision with your team and create a drive towards the same goals.

Helping keep the pennies in check

You’ll make decisions (big and small) that make sure we use our resources in the best way; getting us where we need to be whilst looking after our people and our pennies, spending them wisely.

You’ll keep things on the straight and narrow by okaying spending in line with our delegation of authority, and oversee all budgets and financial performance of the operations teams.

Making sure we’re always doing our job well, even when nobody’s looking

Quality is our middle name (well it isn’t but you know what we mean) – you’ll work with the heads of each of our services and our quality and compliance team to make sure our services are top notch – and keep them that way. You’ll always be making things better; always striving for the next improvement across all our services; keeping them relevant and top of the pile in terms of best practice. Oh, and you’ll be the ‘Nominated Individual’ for the CQC (Care Quality Commission).

You’ll support our Audit and Governance Committee (which is actually super-fun) to monitor the quality of our services and keep our Trustees assured they are being looked after.

Being creative and coming up with snazzy new ideas

Sticking around for as long as we have takes some serious creativity and the ability to take a step back, a deep breath and have a stab at something brave and different. You’ll work with our director of business development and innovation to energise our people to be creative and make new ideas happen.

Sound good to you?
