Young Carers are children and young people under 18 who provide regular or on-going care and emotional support to a family member (usually an adult) who is physically or mentally ill, disabled or misuses substances. A Young Carer becomes vulnerable when the level of care-giving and responsibility to the person in need of care becomes excessive or inappropriate for that child/young person risking impacting on his or her emotional or physical well-being or educational achievement and life chances.

Start Smart Project Worker

  • Location: Start Smart Wirral
  • Contract type: Permanent
  • Hours: 22
  • Salary: £17,316 FTE
  • Closing Date: 1 December 2019
  • Interview Date: TBC

To enable care leavers who are parents (up to 25) to be the most effective parent they can be, by increasing their awareness of how children develop and make attachments. We strive to enable Care Leavers and their children to be happy, healthy, resourceful and able to cope with the everyday and long term challenges of family life and thereby reduce the potential for their children to require the formal intervention of children’s social care through; Child in Need Plans, Child Protection Plans, or becoming looked after by the Local Authority.
