The Santander Social Enterprise Development Awards (SEDA) is a national community investment programme to help support Registered Charities and Constituted Community Groups working for the direct benefit of their community. Prizes of £5,000 or £10,000 are available to help support one of the following social outcomes: improving social inclusion; supporting disadvantaged people through skills; training and employment; creating a greener environment. The BFI Neighbourhood Cinema Equipment Fund is a non-monetary grant scheme helping not-for-profit community cinemas to cover all the costs associated with showing films by supplying equipment to them. Community venues who can demonstrate sufficient levels of existing activity with a British and specialised film programme can apply for equipment such as screens, projectors, Blu-ray players, sound equipment, chairs and blackout blinds. The Church Urban Fund is welcoming applications from local groups and organisations to the Near Neighbours programme. Applicants must be working to develop relationships across diverse faiths and ethnicities in order to improve their communities. Successful applicants will receive a small grant between £250 and £5,000 to help fund this work. This is a rolling programme with no deadlines. The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has launched a call for applications for a Women’s Empowerment Fund. The fund is designed for local community engagement projects that empower women and increase their confidence to challenge abuse including child sexual abuse. The Fund runs from 2015/16 and will allocate a maximum of £20k per project. Voluntary and community groups whose primary objective is to work with women in the community are invited to apply for the funding. The Spirit Of 2012 Spirit of Achievement Arts and Culture Challenge Fund is now open. Applications that will create opportunities for disabled people to participate in arts and cultural activities in the broadest sense are now welcome. The Wolfson Foundation Health and Disability Fund is available to organisations delivering excellent care and support, who are looking to improve their facilities. These facilities tend to focus on enhancing care, providing better opportunities and improving quality of life. Typical areas of interest are: physical disabilities; learning disabilities and mental health; older people; palliative/end of life care. We are particularly interested in the transition from children’s to adult services. Grants vary from around £15,000 to £100,000. The deadline for the next round of applications is 1st July 2015. With effect from 1st April 2015, Biffa Award will be bringing in some changes to its eligibility criteria. This is to address the imbalance of funding available and the sizeable number of applications they receive. The changes shall reduce the mileage a project must be in relation to Biffa operation sites, limit the applications that can be submitted, and introduce a limit on the annual income for applicants to the Small Grant Scheme. Voluntary Sector Telecom is donating half a day’s volunteer work for all new customers until June 2015. For this month only, they are also donating £200 for the first 50 charities to register plus 6 months free local national calls. Charities are also able to apply for a grant of up to £3,000 for updating their telecommunication system. In addition to this, registered charities and not-for-profit organisations with more than 3 telephone users may be entitled to a funding scheme which includes year round subsidised calls packages plus a free calls and maintenance period.
