The North West Legal Support Trust – Round 2018 – Deadline 19th October 2018

Applications are invited for grants which will be used to enable or support the provision of free legal advice (including providing support to the increased number of litigants in person). Preference will be given to activities that enable or support the provision of free legal advice to members of the public who would otherwise be disadvantaged, and will also support other charitable work that promotes access to justice.

The Trust will fund organisations that can show a track record of quality in delivering other funded or income-generating programmes and an ability to be sustainable.  Projects are required to demonstrate how legal advice provision is supervised by or overseen by a legally qualified practitioner: whether employed or associated with the project.

Given the current environment and major reductions in advice delivery support, the Trustees are giving priority to projects that increase the provision of legal advice.  However it will give consideration to other projects, within the Trust aims and objectives, that promote Access to Justice.  Applications in this area must demonstrate, and describe examples of, qualitative and quantitative results.

Applications for funding should meet the following key criteria:

·         Support or enable the provision of free legal advice or advice in a legal context
·         Focus on the most vulnerable people, and in particular families and individuals living in poverty.
·         Demonstrate effective use of resources
·         Demonstrate sustainability through effective use of existing and future resources.

The Trust will consider applications for grants up to £4,000.

The North West Legal Support Trust will only fund not-for-profit activity, and will not support projects where the Trustees feel that Legal Aid Agency funding is suitable and practical within a reasonable time frame.

Successful applications will be subject to a basic written agreement, including a requirement for reporting. We may request additional information or supporting material to help us reach a decision. Applications from organisations with a national reach beyond the North West need to consider how you will evidence the service to show how it delivers to beneficiaries that live in the North West area and how the funds requested will benefit them.

Please bear in mind when entering any longer term commitment that the Trust can never undertake that further grants for a similar purpose will be available in the future.

To apply, please complete the application form and send it via email to [email protected] (with ‘NWLST Grants Round Application’ as a subject line)
