Could ‘Safe Haven’ cafés help with Mental Health Crisis?
Writing in the Guardian, journalist Nicola Slawson profiled the work of one such café based in Aldershot, which is open every weeknight from 6pm until 11pm and every weekend and bank holiday from 12:30pm until 11pm. A typical customer at the café is Kimberley (not her real name), who has borderline personality disorder as well as an eating disorder and depression. The café, which is open to anyone who needs mental health support out-of-hours, has become a lifeline to her after she started going a year ago.
