Beanstalk, a literacy charity that supports children from across the North West is making a call out in Wirral for people who could play a positive role in transforming the life of a child in the local area.
The charity already supports over 1400 primary school children in the North West who are falling behind on their reading by recruiting and training reading helpers. Each volunteer works with three children on an individual basis, twice a week for a school year. Therefore, this one-to-one support and consistency is invaluable to the children that Beanstalk supports and provides them with the basis from which to lead a happy and successful life.
Becoming a reading helper with Beanstalk is a rewarding and fun experience with a large number of reading helpers staying on for many years. One helper Cathie who is celebrating her 30th year as a reading helper said ‘I feel I am the cherry on top of the icing on the cake for these children’. Charity representative Rebecca Carter stated ‘we are really grateful to the volunteers that give their time to our important cause, we are looking for more volunteers in Wirral so that we can help even more children’.
