John Rayner (1928-1990) and his wife, Juliet, decided to form a Charitable Trust in 1985 in memory of their son Simeon, who was killed in a road accident.
This trust was primarily to help children and young people who were deprived or in difficulty. In 1989 when John knew he was dying of cancer he created another trust, the John Rayner Charitable Trust, whose remit was wider reaching.
In 1992 the trustees of both trusts, his wife and 2 surviving children, decided to combine the trusts under the umbrella JRCT to include the aims and ideals of both.
His 6 grandchildren are now taking an active role in the Trust so the legacy will live on.
Who do they support?
The JRCT offers donations of between £1,000 – £5,000 to a wide range of charities.
They only support UK charities.
Their emphasis is on those who help…
- Children and young people,
- Carers and the elderly,
- Medical support,
- The disabled,
- Sport for all ages and abilities,
- The arts.
Charities which show a passion for their cause, individual projects and tangible goals are always looked upon favourably and they also happily support core funding.
HOW TO APPLY
The trust today invests in quoted equities aiming to grow its capital and yet provide an income which is paid out annually in small grants to around 20 charities.
Support is mainly for small and medium sized charities operating in the UK.
Funding is often provided for more than one year and they put no restrictions on expenditure.
The cut off date for applications is 31st December 2021.
