Interested in space in Birkenhead Market for exhibits, workshops, promotion of community events?

Wirral Council and the Borough of Culture team are working with Birkenhead Market to create colour and activity within the market utilising vacant space for exhibitions and creating a ‘What’s on in Wirral’ stand alone with support of the Tour of Britain information. We would like you to bring your creative ideas to the table.

Several spaces have been identified for different uses – including a potential gallery, as space for housing static exhibitions – which may be suitable to accommodate displays portraying the eight themes of the Year of the Environment , space for a pop up gym to promote well being through council initiatives and more.

As agreed in a recent internal meeting, this space will be made available to be utilised in support of: Employment, The Wirral Population & Health & Wellbeing initiatives.

The spaces will be available on a Free of Charge basis based on a 6 week revolving trial basis, however checks will be made to ensure the space is not being abused and is safe for the general public.

Please note that if a specific space is required by a potential full paying tenant within that period then the Council (Asset Management) will retain the right to take back the unit and use a best endeavours approach to relocate to a suitable vacant space within the market.

Potential tenants may wish to try this FOC option as a trial with a view to taking up a longer position in the market or as a space to engage with the public on creative projects.

This initiative is to make best use of the current empty space within the market that will potentially allow for an increase footfall for existing tenants and also bring a bit of vibrancy back to the market, while the market is in transition. The initiative is to have a mass influx of new activity within the market to generate publicity and new visitors.

Each participant will need to hold public liability insurance and provide a copy of this for the market to keep on file.

Each participant will need to meet all health and safety requirements of the establishment and to have a presence within the space during opening hours or to share responsibility for maintaining a static display on a regular basis as the market will not be responsible for damage.

I hope this meets the requirements, in the meantime then please let me know if you require any more information. Comments welcome.

Please attend the meeting in the white shop on TATE aisle. Come with questions but be ready to be quick off the mark.

Timescale – Within the next 2-3 weeks
