How Community Action Wirral Can Help You

0

You’re probably wondering, who exactly are we? What is it we do? A valid question. With three new kickstarters joining the team, this was something that was asked a lot around the office, albeit mostly to each other. So, we thought we’d write an article breaking it down for you.

Who Are We

To start with we are one of the many partners of the Wirral Chamber of Commerce. We have up until recently been sharing an office space with the Chamber, but we have now moved to The Lauries in Birkenhead. We are also a registered charity in our own right.

The Girls of CAW: Zel, Sophie H, Amy, Ailish, and Sophie G

At the forefront of our organisation, there is Zel Rogers who knows everyone and anything to do with charities, funding and local government on the Wirral. She knows everything and runs most of our online webinars and meetings.

Then there is Steven McCulloch who recently rebranded us and has been putting together our issues of Wirral Today, as well as our social media presence. He has also been designing the new Egerton Wharf website which will be up and running soon for the Wirral Chamber of Commerce.

Finally, the latest additions to our team are the kickstarters: Sophie Hutchison, Ailish Kelly and Sophie Groves. Between them, they do the groundwork of putting Zel and Steve’s ideas into fruition, along with our apprentice Amy Hammon.

What We Do

As it says on our homepage:

Community Action: Wirral promotes, supports, engages and involves the amazing work happening in and around Wirral communities. We can help you engage with local communities whether you are part of a community, charity, group, company or an individual looking to make a difference!

Essentially we do what the Chamber does, only slightly different because of the sectors we deal with. The diagram below shows the difference between us:

Our goals are all about impact. The impact a small charity or programme can make to a community, and overtime make a big difference. Impact is one of the areas the third sector is defined by, including:

  • Mission
  • Values
  • Aims
  • Outcomes
  • Impact

This diagram shows how the third sector thinks collectively, and also how CAW thinks on a daily basis in what we do:

Some of the charities we have assisted over the years include:

Due to our network with so many charities and organisations, we have also been involved with several initiatives and programmes such as:

  • Cheshire and Merseyside Women’s Programme – Local charities successfully applied for this limited funding opportunity through the Cheshire and Merseyside Women & Children’s Services Partnership and its initiative to improve maternal mental health after Covid-19. The funding went on to support women and their families who were expecting a child or had recently given birth, who may have been affected by social isolation due to Covid-19.
  • Independent Wirral’s Woodside Ferry Village Market – At the beginning of May 2021, the Community Action Wirral team and our colleagues at Wirral Chamber went to Woodside Ferry Village to help out our friends at Independent Wirral with their new market space.
