Edsential were successful in receiving £1.8m of funds from the Department of Education for Holiday Activity Fund to support eligible free school meal children across Cheshire West and Chester, Wirral and Halton.
Voluntary, community, faith and social enterprises are invited to apply for funds to deliver over the summer holiday period of 2020. Originally, the provision minimum requirements were 4 hours x 4 days x 4 weeks of the holiday, however due to the current situation and disruption we have flexibility on this model and it may be that some of this provision is delivered online.
Provision must offer on a healthy meal, physical and wellbeing activities, nutritional education and enrichment activities such as arts, crafts, music, forest schools, adventurous activities, etc. The Department of Education would also like to see family cooking to be involved. Edsential and partner services can support with all elements of this if needed.
Edsential and partners are currently linking with community food hub providers to see how this can support the summer provision. However, if organisations choose to continue to provide food as part of their offer they can. This will need to be included in the proposal.
Through this funding the aim is to support a minimum of 56% of young people who are entitled to free school meals across Wirral.
