Since we’ve moved back into the heart of Birkenhead, we thought we’d spotlight some of our neighbours in the CH41 postcode. Hopefully we can get our community hub up and running soon for you to pop in and have a coffee with us!
Charity Starts At Home:
- A Stroke of Luck provides stroke survivors with the opportunity to access fitness professionals’ services to aid in recovery and rehabilitation.
- AJ and Friends Association provide play groups for children and young people whom have additional needs. They promote positive mental health to care givers by offering counselling support, well being workshops & holistic therapies. We assist in respite care and plan days out for families of children with complex additional needs.
- Beaconsfield Residents Association seeks to raise awareness among Beaconsfielders on the issues and decisions that have an impact on their city and their quality of life. It monitors the political and administrative decisions taken by the city’s elected officials and administrative staff, speaks on behalf of its members on crucial issues and provides information to residents that will help them make choices at election time.
- Beyond Recovery is an independent community mental health creative project that started in late 2011. They are a small group of people who have been gathering ‘expert by experience’ mental health art pieces and literature in the Merseyside area of England. They want to pass on the wisdom gleaned by people recovering from mental distress about staying well to other people, as well as pointing out local, national and international organisations people can turn to for help and information.
- Building Bridges Wirral CIC is a community & well being centre which is open to everyone in the Wirral community, based at Cavendish Community Hub, Bray Street.
- Convenience Gallery CIC is a community focussed arts organisation based in Birkenhead. Offering a space for the community to engage with art outside of it normalised context doing this by bringing creativity & arts into public spaces. Their primary location is at the Bloom Building.
- Dyslexia Association is the Wirral branch of the British Dyslexia Association located at St James Centre on Laird Street.
- Equilibrium North West CIC is a not-for-profit company concerned with researching & tackling inequalities, with projects to help improve health & wellbeing
- Friends of Birkenhead Park was established in 1976 as a response to the neglect of the park and the need for an organisation to represent the wider interests of Britain’s first public park.
- Greater Merseyside Funding Advisors Group delivers free debt advice through a series of Participant agencies. We also work with telephone advice providers, offering free and confidential financial advice.
- Headway Wirral aim to promote understanding of all aspects of brain injury and provide information, support and services to survivors, their families and carers.
- Hope for the Hungry currently feed the homeless and hungry of the Wirral four nights a week. They provide a toiletries/hygiene pack per person once a month. They also now have the facility to prep, cook and freeze meals to guarantee struggling families get a meal on the table. They can provide food bags to anybody in need, regardless of their circumstances.
- JourneyMEN Wirral CIC focusses on men with mental health issues, and are working with all local professional organisations so that men in their care receive the specialist care that they deserve tailored to each individual.
- Mencap is the leading voice of learning disability. Everything they do is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, and their families and carers.
- Wirral Ark is a registered charity that exists to provide accommodation for the homeless, under the MainStay framework, as well as providing support and guidance for individuals to secure permanent long term accommodation .
- Make It Happen Birkenhead is an open community hub, shop & social supermarket situated in the heart of Market Street in Birkenhead for the use of everyone in the community
- Local Solutions has been generating and delivering services to support individuals, families and communities with a primary focus on those experiencing disadvantage, exclusion and vulnerability.
- Metanoeo CIC provides training and supporting life coaches to transform communities – empowering and co-creating wellbeing for all through journeying together from understanding to transformation.
- One Economy Ltd is a consultancy and business support service built upon the belief that true strength is realised when all sectors of the economy work as one towards their shared objective.
- The Hive Youth Zone, named by young people as ‘The Hive’, is a purpose-built facility for the borough’s young people aged 8 – 19, and up to 25 for those with disabilities.
- The Local Carer’s Network provide free and impartial information, advice and support about special educational needs & disabilities (SEND) for children, young people, parents and carers.
- Open Door Charity is primarily a collection of young adults driven by the desire to create an organisation that is designed by young people, for young people. One that really understands and reflects the perspective of being a young person in these modern times.
- Urban Flow is a small non-charitable unincorporated association. Redesigning urban spaces for functional purpose to bring about feelings of hope, purpose and prosperity.
- Vintage Radio Community Station is funded by its members. Any donation, no matter how small would help Vintage Radio stay on air and would towards our running costs.

Mind provides advice and support for those with mental health problems and their families, as well as campaigning to raise awareness and understanding. They offer a range of national and local services including workplace training to develop mentally healthy offices, applied suicide intervention skills, Mental Health First Aid and bespoke training sessions. It is at the forefront of helping others with mental health problems with its services, which include:
- Infoline, which offers callers confidential help for the price of a local call.
- Legal Line, which provides information on mental health related law to the public, service users, family members/carers, mental health professionals and mental health advocates.
- Their award-winning information, certified by the PIF Tick.
- YMCA Wirral has been serving the local community for 145 years. Their services include Personal Development, a Development programme, Supported and Assisted Housing, and more, to help individuals get off the streets.
There are hundreds more businesses and organisations in this area, but we’ve listed as many as we could. There will be more time in the future to highlight anyone else who needs our support.
