Recent developments have seen a partnership arrangement between Community Action Wirral and Wirral Chamber of Commerce to collaborate on a new Local Authority funded Third Sector (Not for Profit) Infrastructure Support contract. The contract is due to start on 1st October 2017 and has an initial duration of 3 years, with the option to extend for a further 12 months x 2 on the basis of successful delivery and value for money, so a possible 5-year total duration.
The Third Sector plays an important role in identifying local needs, providing services to support communities and developing new projects and services. This infrastructure contract is to support community, voluntary and faith groups to engage in activities that will improve their neighbourhoods, deliver services to meet the needs of Wirral residents and take a more active role in the design and delivery of local services. Using shared intelligence, it is to nurture and support asset-based community development principles and foster community-led solutions through social action. In addition, it is to facilitate the delivery of the Wirral Together Strategy, promoting greater participation of local residents and groups to make a difference in their areas through volunteering and/or neighbouring.
The overall aims and objectives of the role are to ensure that Wirral based third sector organisations have effective leadership and are equipped with the support and skills to participate in the delivery of the Wirral Plan 2020 outcomes, and to deliver the aims of the Wirral Together Strategy to increase the number of volunteers, types of volunteering and range of volunteering opportunities.
