On 25 May 2018 the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect in the UK. This replaced the previous Data Protection Act and introduced new and different requirements for all sectors and organisations.
To help fundraisers understand the key parts of GDPR in relation to direct marketing, we released GDPR: The Essentials for Fundraising Organisations in May 2017. Since GDPR came into effect on the 25 May 2018, there have been a number of new questions and challenges highlighted by fundraisers.
As the first anniversary of GDPR approaches, we have partnered with BDB Pitmans to review the guidance to make sure that is up to date and relevant. Version 2 of the guidance also includes all new top tips and advice in areas such as assessing whether you have a legitimate interest and employing a Data Protection Officer.
