At least one in three people in Wirral have high blood pressure, or Hypertension, but they don’t necessarily know it. It’s a particularly dangerous condition as there are usually no warning symptoms until damage is already done. If left untreated, high blood pressure can cause eye and kidney problems, as well as strokes and heart attacks.
As part of a campaign to encourage people in Wirral to have regular blood pressure checks, free blood pressure training is on-offer next month at Birkenhead Town Hall.
The training is City and Guilds Accredited and only takes a few hours. Once completed, trainees get a blood pressure machine to take away – which they can use for members of the public or for staff wellbeing checks. They will also get advice on setting up a health and wellbeing hub at work.
Six sessions will be available over the next two years. The first one will be held at Birkenhead Town Hall on the morning of Friday 24 May (edit: which is now fully booked). If you’re interested in taking part, please email Rebecca Lewis who will send over more information for future dates.
Over the next two years, we hope to get at least 100 large workplaces in Wirral signed up to the training and give them a blood pressure machine.
