Community Action Wirral & Wirral Chamber of Commerce giving back to those most in need this Christmas

Community Action Wirral (CAW) & Wirral Chamber of Commerce spent the first 12 days of Christmas giving back to support communities in Wirral who are struggling during these increasingly troubling times, particularly financially.

They launched a very interactive advent inspired campaign, the ’12 Days of Christmas’, that took off over all social media channels. Each morning of the 12 days, starting 1st December, a social media post was released revealing the ‘item of the day’ in an advent calendar style. Members of the public particularly took to Twitter (@ActionOnWirral) to take part in the daily Christmas quizzes and polls that spread some festive cheer along the way.

The list of items requested for donation over the 12 days were inspired by Wirral Foodbanks ‘harvest list’ of things they receive the least donations of, as they tend to receive plenty of pasta and beans.

The donation drop off point was at the reception in the Lauries Community Campus for all members of the public to safely leave their donations.

Community Action Wirral also teamed up with Koala Charity North West to help collect donations for their Christmas Toy Appeal for children aged 0-11 – which was a huge success.

The 12-item list was as follows:

  • Tin of soup
  • Bag of rice
  • Tea/coffee
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste
  • Tinned fish
  • Biscuits
  • Tinned veg
  • Tinned meat
  • Rice pudding
  • Deodorant
  • Tinned fruit
  • Toy or Christmas treat

Community Action Wirral were particularly pleased to receive a visit from Lynne & Jo, members of Wirral Society of the Blind & Partially Sighted, and from LV Shipping’s Kevin Walsh, a strategic partner of Wirral Chamber of Commerce with their very generous donations, as both organisations explained how they had followed along with the social media campaign, as well as many members of the public who kindly dropped by.

The staff at Community Action Wirral & Wirral Chamber of Commerce were particularly keen on taking part in this campaign to donate to such worthy causes, some are pictured below dropping off their donations.

Over the 12 days, Community Action Wirral & Wirral Chamber of Commerce received an outstanding number of items, including:

  • 374 tins of food
  • Over 124 hygiene products
  • Over 112 confectionery items
  • 59 tea/coffee/hot chocolate products
  • 85 pasta/rice items
  • Around 100 toys for Koala Charity’s Christmas toy appeal

Thanks to the generosity of deliveries from people across the peninsula, Community Action Wirral were able to donate these items to Wirral Foodbank, located in Birkenhead, in a time where vulnerable members of our community need it the most.

Pictured below with the abundance of donations received is CEO of Wirral Chamber, Paula Basnett, Director of Community Action Wirral, Warren Ward, and the rest of the team who are all extremely pleased with the generosity of the community.

Warren Ward, Director at Community Action Wirral, said:

“I am overwhelmed to see the tremendous amount of generosity and support shown by everyone involved in our 12 Days of Christmas campaign.

“It has been fantastic to be involved in something so positive that will make a significant difference to the lives of families across Wirral.

“It is important now more than ever that we continue to come together as a community and do whatever we can to support our most vulnerable residents and ensure nobody has to go hungry this Christmas.”

The food items were packed up and taken to Wirral Foodbank on 15th Decemeber, so that families will receive parcels in time for Christmas. The team are pictured below dropping the donations off at the foodbank.

Community Action Wirral & Wirral Chamber of Commerce would like to thank each and every person who donated to make their campaign such a huge success to make those most in need very happy this Christmas.

If you missed the 12 Days of Christmas Campaign and are interested in donating the items mentioned, you can donate to: Unit 14, Wirral Business Centre, Dock RD, Wallasey, Birkenhead. CH41 1JW.
