0 Contact the Elderly – Promoting their service.

I work for a national charity called Contact the Elderly covering the North West. Contact the Elderly has been bringing friendship to lonely and isolated older people for 52 years now. We do this by bringing together small groups of lonely older people and kind hearted volunteers, who meet together each month in a local volunteer’s home, enjoying cups of tea, cakes and sandwiches together in a warm and friendly environment. This free door-to-door service is a vital lifeline of friendship for older people within the community.

Volunteers with cars (who have all been DBS checked and provided two references) each collect two or three older guests every month, and the group of 8 to 10 guests plus 4-5 volunteer drivers meet for Afternoon Tea in the house of a volunteer host. They visit a different home each month and over the months friendships develop. Group members are usually well into their 80s and 90s, (though the minimum age is just 75 years ish) living alone (or as carers or within sheltered schemes) without supportive family nearby and would struggle to get ‘out and about’ without assistance. Many of the groups’ guests will use a stick or frame to aid their mobility, and would need to be able to walk the short distance from their front door to their volunteer’s car (and get in and out of the car) with just the guiding arm of a volunteer for additional support. Unfortunately we are unable to include older people who rely on a wheelchair for their mobility – volunteers’ cars and hosts’ homes are not adapted for wheelchair access.

0 GDPR: The essentials for Fundraising organisations

On 25 May 2018 the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect in the UK. This will replace the current Data Protection Act and introduce new and different requirements for all sectors and organisations.

To help fundraisers understand the key parts of GDPR in relation to direct marketing and how you can lawfully contact your supporters, we have produced this guidance in partnership with Bircham Dyson Bell to take you through the main questions.

Charity Escapes is a holiday website with a difference. Not only do we offer a wide range of really special properties but when you book with us, some (if not all) of the money you pay goes to a good cause. So, just by booking a holiday you are helping a charitable cause!

Charity Escapes is delighted to be working with a small number of charities who are doing some amazing things. We’ve listed some of our charity partners below with some more details about what they do and how they spend money raised from selling Charity Escapes. Come along, get ready to collaborate, and help reignite Wirral’s long history of ideas and innovation.

0 Fundraising and Data Protection Guide

I decided to write a clear, plain English guide to fundraising and charities based largely on the first data protection principle, setting out what Data Protection really requires from Data Protection. I wrote a blog asking for questions that charities and fundraisers really wanted the answers to, planning to write the guide over Christmas and publish it in January. Initially, I had lofty ideas for something interactive, but it came to nothing, so a guide to DP and fundraising was the aim.

0 The Charity Social Media Toolkit

Social media is evolving by the week and for charities it can be hard to keep up with the dazzling new platforms while remaining effective. The good news is that there are some fundamental elements to success that are unlikely to change such as understanding your audience, setting your goals and defining your strategy.

0 Fundraising for Legacies – Resource development request.

Have you ever thought about fundraising through Legacies? It can be a difficult subject to introduce, but it can also be very beneficial as a way of raising funds, and awareness of your work.

There is a ‘Small Fundraisers’ group which meets regularly to discuss ways to support each other with fundraising information and look at innovative fundraising ideas.

The group are hoping to design a resource which would help small charities in Wirral to initiate discussions with their beneficiaries regarding legacies, and which would be a practical way of including Legacy funding within their fundraising strategy.
