NEET

Career Connect are our commissioned service for our 16 and 17 year olds who are NEET. They are based in Argyle street and offer a drop in service or appointments can be made. Each young person who is NEET will be caseloaded to an Engagement Worker and receive careers guidance. Some schools also pay for a careers service through Career Connect for their pupils. Careers Guidance

Ofsted measure the quality of Careers Guidance in schools against the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks https://www.gatsby.org.uk/education/focus-areas/good-career-guidance there is an advisor in the team Brian Powell, who works with secondary schools to develop resources with schools so that they can meet the benchmarks.

START!

This is a programme for year 7’s up to 6th form students. It’s a careers guidance platform which enables young people to explore different careers, entry points, qualifications needed, expected salaries and progression routes. Young Chamber/Wirral Futures Together Programme

A service commissioned around Enterprise and Careers for Secondary Schools, this includes employer visits, employers coming into schools and enterprise activities. They also organise an annual Skills Show for our secondary schools which is attended by over 70 local employers of all sizes and enables young people to “have a go” at activities that employers have designed which relate to their company. Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Study Programme

Post 16 routeways other than 6th form include Apprenticeships for those who want to earn while they learn, Traineeships, for those not quite ready for an apprenticeship and Study Programmes for those who may have not had the best experience of school or who need further support over 12 months to achieve qualifications and gain work experience.

Skillz Programme and Care Leaver Hub

All Children Looked After from Year 11 up until the age of 21 have access to an Employability Coach through our team. The Participation and Engagement Team which comes under our service now will also be offering the Skillz programme for our CLA and Care Leavers aged 15-18 and is based around 3 stages to independence. It includes budgeting, cooking, washing clothes, dealing with bills, becoming tenancy ready etc.

It will work in the following way :

  • Bronze Award-15-16 Year olds
  • Silver Award-16-17 Year olds
  • Gold Award:-17-18 Year olds

The Hub will also offer a drop in service with a coffee bar for our young people as well as social evenings such as Curry night, Movie night etc. There will also be a range of professional services available on different days, this will include Health, Accommodation, DWP etc.

Supported Internships

This is a programme for 16-24 year olds with an EHCP and delivered by Wirral Met. This programme offers SEND young people a foot in the door to employment while being supported by a job coach from the college.
