0 Connect Us – Building links with community groups and activities – 3rd October 2017

As part of the aspiration of Connect Us, we look to link in with as many existing community groups and activities in order for us to be best placed to know and understand what is available in the community. We endeavour to actively support existing groups to grow and reach out further if this is the ambition.

We are working with a large population of the Wirral currently and working to support all to move forward, improve their health and wellbeing, increase their social connections and feel part of their communities.

We are mindful of the challenges the festive season can bring to many of the individuals and families who are known to us. Therefore, are thinking forward about the best ways we can ensure this is as positive as it can be for some of our most disconnected vulnerable community members.

0 Greggs Foundation – Local Community Projects Fund – Next deadline Friday 29th September 2017

The Local Community Projects Fund helps organisations based in local communities to deliver projects or provide equipment to people in need at the heart of our local communities. The programme is administered by seven charity committees throughout England, Wales and Scotland. Please carefully read the following guidelines before starting an application.

Local Community Projects Funding is offered to organisations supporting people in need. Any not for profit organisation can apply, however, larger organisations with a turnover in excess of £300,000 are unlikely to be successful.

We are interested in projects that improve resilience within your community of interest. This can include sessional activities/respite support, equipment for sessional activities, trips and residential breaks. We are also interested in new approaches and innovative ideas as well as sustainable approaches to supporting your community of interest. We do not fund running costs or continuation of existing and ongoing work.

0 North West Regional Bite-size – Beginners’ Legacy Management 15th November at Claire House Children’s Hospice Bebington

Continuing ILM’s regional training programme with this specially devised one-day course (normally two days) to provide an overview of estate administration and charity practice.
During the morning we will review the legal background to legacies followed by consideration of the practicalities of dealing with legacies at a charity including dealing with executors, trustees and members of the public. The course will finish with a practical case study incorporating the themes and topics encountered earlier in the day.

 Stick ‘n’ Step supports children and young people with cerebral palsy, and their families, from across North West England and North Wales.

Through the provision of free group conductive education sessions, we help each individual to reach their personal potential in terms of their confidence, mobility and independence. The organisation is in an exciting and transformative season of growth which will see capacity grow by 86% in the next three years.

The team of staff, Trustees and volunteers have been on a journey to improve and develop every aspect of the organisation to guarantee a vibrant and strong future for the organisation.

0 Health and Wellbeing Fund 2017 to 2018 on social prescribing – Deadline 21st November 2017

The fund is part of the health and wellbeing programme. Each round focuses on a specific theme. The theme for this round is social prescribing.

We are inviting applications to set up a new social prescribing scheme or to support the expansion of an existing scheme.

Through this programme, the Department of Health, NHS England and Public Health England are working with voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations to promote equality, address health inequalities and support the well-being of people, families and communities.

0 To all environmental groups – get involved in a planned week of litter picks on the Wirral

Wirral Council is committed to encouraging local groups which make a difference to their environment and we are launching a new initiative to support the fantastic contribution made by volunteers to keep the borough clean and tidy.  As part of this, the Council is purchasing new litter picking kits and a range of other equipment for use by groups, schools and residents and is working with the constituency teams to make these resources easy to get hold of by storing them in local facilities such as libraries.

To launch the initiative we are planning a week of cleanups across the four constituency areas in October to promote loving where we live and to encourage more residents to get involved.

0 GOOD NEWS FOR THE THIRD SECTOR – Regarding Membership fees for Wirral Chamber.

As we know, the Third Sector is diverse and includes large multi-million pound national charitable organisations as well as small self-funded groups and organisations. It is because of this diversity that the Chamber has had some anomalies in applying their fee structure, which is based on number of paid employees.

Community Action Wirral has been working in partnership with Wirral Chamber to agree a fee structure that takes the needs of the sector into account. After exploring several models, we have decided that a generous discount would be the best outcome. This is less complicated than applying a ‘pick and mix’ of services and benefits that may or may not be useful. This way, the sector can benefit from the whole package that membership offers, even if not all services are utilised.

Third Sector members will therefore receive a 50% discount off their annual Chamber membership effective 1st March 2017.

Join us at our upcoming Employer Information Event to help inform businesses about the Universal Credit full service which is being rolled out in the Wirral area on 15th November 2017.

Universal Credit is a new single monthly payment for people who are on a low income or out of work. It brings together a range of current benefits and tax credits.

The Connected Communities Innovation Fund is a partnership between Nesta and the Office for Civil Society at DCMS, providing up to £4 million in grants, alongside significant non-financial support, to the best innovations that mobilise the time and talents of people across the lifecourse, to create outcomes in any of the following themes:

Community connections and thriving places: innovations that mobilise the time and talents of people within local communities to share resources, create reciprocal models of support and enable people to help each other in key priorities within their communities.
Community resilience in emergencies: innovations that mobilise the time and talents of people to enable communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.
Digital Innovation: innovations that harness the opportunities of digital technologies to help mobilise the time and talents of people in new ways that suit 21st century lifestyles and needs.
Improving our environment: innovations that mobilise the time and talents of people to create better responses to reducing waste and pollution.
