0 To all environmental groups – get involved in a planned week of litter picks on the Wirral

Wirral Council is committed to encouraging local groups which make a difference to their environment and we are launching a new initiative to support the fantastic contribution made by volunteers to keep the borough clean and tidy.  As part of this, the Council is purchasing new litter picking kits and a range of other equipment for use by groups, schools and residents and is working with the constituency teams to make these resources easy to get hold of by storing them in local facilities such as libraries.

To launch the initiative we are planning a week of cleanups across the four constituency areas in October to promote loving where we live and to encourage more residents to get involved.

0 Get compliant or face crisis: How GDPR could affect your organisation EVENT on the 26th September 2017 at 4pm.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force from 25th May 2018, superseding the Data Protection Act 1998. This change introduces a new era of data protection and privacy in the modern world and includes the ability of the Information Commissioner to fine charities and social enterprises up to 4% of total turnover for failing to comply with the legislation.

Central to the Regulation is the idea of privacy being a fundamental right, along with radical changes in the way organisations are required to collect and manage their data with new emphasis placed on organisations to demonstrate ongoing compliance, resulting in increased accountability. This affects everything from Citizen’s Data, Evaluation Systems, HR Records and Fundraising Procedures.

To help ensure voluntary, community and social enterprises avoid significant financial penalties and provide commissioners with confidence with their data protection policy and procedures, Capacity has assembled a panel of experts to talk about the requirements for GDPR compliance. Come along to our informative, engaging and interactive awareness event and find out what you need to know to make sure your organization is fully prepared, along with useful tips and help on where to find extra support.

0 Wirral’s Annual Youth Voice Conference is being held on Tuesday 10th October 2017

To all schools, youth groups and organisations

Wirral’s Annual Youth Voice Conference is being held on Tuesday 10th October 2017, 9 am – 3.30pm at Wallasey Town Hall

This year young people have identified education and mental well-being as the theme for the conference.  Therefore, throughout the day there will be workshops, performance pieces and a debate in the Council Chamber on this theme.

We would like schools and youth groups to put forward a motion to be discussed in the afternoon debating activity. This is optional as motions will also be collected on the day from workshop groups.

0 The Dome of Home begins restoration work on their Third Heritage Lottery Fund Project

New Brighton’s majestic landmark church, Ss Peter, Paul and St Philomena’s Church, has won second-round funding of £222,900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), it was announced today. Thanks to National Lottery players, this project will restore the two beautiful marble side chapels at The Dome of Home.

Several exciting activities have been planned for the project. A team of volunteers have begun preparing a Children’s Audio Tour, with scenarios all based on true events, set in 1940s New Brighton during World War II, and recorded by local drama students from St Marys College, Wallasey Village. This is part of a Heritage Education Pack for primary schools (cross-curricular) and secondary schools for Key Stage 3 History and RE.

Wirral Transport Museum volunteers will provide a vintage bus to help local people and families access The Dome easily and ‘step-into the 1940s’. A ‘Hop-on’ service will operate from designated Merseytravel bus stops along New Brighton promenade on three consecutive Saturdays (26th August, 2nd and 9th September) between 12 noon and 4pm, as part of the Heritage Open Days, to ferry visitors to and from The Dome.
